Here is how big it really is, what comes in the box, and how to decorate and secure it so it looks lovely in photos and stays put.

What you get, and how big it is

• Size. The seller’s size photo shows the 7.2 ft arch as about 7.2 feet (2.2 m) wide and 6 feet (1.83 m) high. The circle is cut off at the bottom where it meets the bases, which is why it is wider than it is tall.
• Frame. Square steel tubes with a gold painted finish that the seller describes as rust proof. The pieces join with screws, and one tube has no screws (the seller says it fits at the start or end of the curve).
• Bases. Two large flat bases rather than welded feet. The seller says to set a balanced distance between them so neither base tips up.
• Balloon kit. The listing photo shows 50 balloon clips, 4 balloon tape strips, 2 rolls of glue dots and an instruction sheet. Balloons are not included. Handy for a shower or rehearsal dinner.
• Weight. About 3.5 kg (just under 8 pounds), per the listing. Light enough to lift, but at over 7 feet wide it is a two-person carry once assembled.

Six feet high matters. The top of the ring sits near head height for a tall adult, so plan to stand just in front of it, with the circle framing you from behind. If the groom or officiant is tall, flowers hanging down from the top will be close to head height, so keep the heaviest swag on the sides.

How to decorate a circle wedding arch

The round shape does a lot of the work, so you need less decoration than you might think. Four looks that suit it:

An asymmetric floral swag

The classic look: one generous cluster of flowers and greenery at the upper left, and a smaller one at the lower right, leaving most of the gold circle bare. It reads as elegant and modern and uses far fewer stems than covering the whole ring. Faux florals work well here, since you can build the swag weeks ahead.

Fabric with flowers

Drape a long length of white or ivory chiffon over the top of the circle so it falls on both sides and pools on the ground, then add a small cluster of flowers where the fabric gathers. Tie the fabric at the top with ribbon or a zip tie hidden under the flowers so it does not slide in a breeze. To work out how much to buy, measure over the top of the arch and down to the floor on both sides, then add extra for pooling. In wind, long fabric acts like a sail, so shorten it or tie it at both sides.

Attaching decorations safely

Use zip ties, floral wire or florist tape, and wrap a little ribbon under any wire so it does not scratch the gold paint. Keep the weight balanced: a heavy swag on one side pulls the frame toward that side, so check that it still stands straight once everything is on. Avoid hanging anything heavy from the very top of the curve.

Setting it up on the day

• Do a test build at home. Assemble it once a few weeks before, so you know how long it takes and how many hands you need. Two people make it easier.
• Wear gloves. The seller’s safety note warns about sharp edges during assembly.
• Weight the bases. The seller says the flat bases help it resist wind, but a decorated arch catches more wind than a bare one. Outdoors, put sandbags or weights on both bases and keep children from swinging on it.
• Ask the venue. Check where you can set it, when you can get in to decorate, and whether anything may be attached to walls or ground.
• Name a setup and takedown person. Give one friend or your coordinator the job of assembling it, decorating it and taking it home, so it is not left to you on the morning.

Using it again during the reception

After the ceremony, the same arch can move behind the sweetheart table or the cake, become the frame for a photo spot with fairy lights, or stand at the entrance as a welcome. If you plan to move it, choose decorations that travel well, and make sure someone strong is assigned to carry it between the ceremony and reception spaces.

• Measure the space. Allow a little more than the arch’s width, plus room for flowers or fabric to spread, and check any low ceilings or branches.
• Decide on the size. The same listing offers 7.2 ft and 8.5 ft. The seller does not list the 8.5 ft dimensions in the bullets, so select 8.5 ft on the listing and check the photos and details shown for it. For most ceremonies and indoor rooms the 7.2 ft is plenty; look at the 8.5 ft for a large outdoor space or a tall couple.
• Check the gold. Gold paint varies from brand to brand. Unbox it soon after delivery and compare it with your other gold decor, so there is time to contact the seller if the color is not what you expected.
