When to give
- The bridesmaid proposal: when you ask her to be in the wedding. A proposal box with a handwritten card and one small gift, such as the tumbler, is plenty.
- Getting-ready gifts: robes, makeup bags and jewelry are meant to be used on the day, so hand them out at the rehearsal dinner or the night before, not after the wedding.
- Groomsmen gifts: at the rehearsal dinner, or on the day before the men dress. Anything they will wear, such as tie clips, cufflinks or bow ties, must reach them before they dress, and if you give cufflinks, check early that their shirts have French cuffs.
- The parents: privately on the wedding morning, or at the rehearsal dinner with a few words of thanks.
How many to buy
- Count everyone first: every bridesmaid, counting the maid of honor as one of them, and every groomsman, counting the best man as one of them. Then decide whether the groom, junior bridesmaids, the officiant or the ushers get a gift too.
- Sets come in 6 or 8: the sets in this guide come in 6 or 8. If your count is close, buy a second set, so a late addition to the party is covered.
- Mix the versions: some gifts, like the lace trim robe, come in Bridesmaid and Maid of Honor versions. Choose them one by one on Amazon so each person gets the right one.
